I am an Assistant Professor in the Discipline of Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar [IITGN] since July 2015. I am an experimental condensed matter Physicist by training with expertise in the area of "Growth and Characterization of Advanced Nanomaterials and Organic Thin Films".

Academic Background

  • Ph.D (Physics): Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (Degree awarded by University of Calcutta)
  • Post MSc.(Physics): Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics
  • MSc.(Physics): University of Calcutta
  • BSc. (Physics): University of Calcutta

Areas of Research Interest:

  • Nano-science, Physics of Surface and Interfaces
  • Material Science,
  • Growth and Characterization of Nanomaterials and Organic Thin Films employed in Organic Solar Cells,
  • Phase Transition and Structural Re-organization of Nanomaterials at Surfaces and Interfaces

Research Synopsis:

My doctoral work focused on the ordering, structural properties and the morphology of self-assembled nanostructured materials at surfaces and interfaces involving meta-stable phase-transitions and structural re-organization of nanomaterials. During my postdoctoral period, my research interests included growth and structural characterization of nanomaterials and organic thin films, in-situ X-ray scattering studies of the growth of small molecule organic semiconductors employed in organic photovoltaic and plasmonic nanostructures for enhanced light trapping in organic photovoltaic. My recent research activities as a faculty at IIT Gandhinagar involve detailed structural and morphological characterization of advanced nanomaterials (e.g. organometallic nanoparticles; functionalized small molecules and a unique combination of both) to investigate their growth processes which eventually define important rheological, mechanical, optical and photovoltaic properties of such systems.

Teaching:

At IIT Gandhinagar, I have been involved in supervising the Physics Practical for the undergraduate as well as the postgraduate courses. Apart from that, I teach basic and advanced topics in Condensed Matter Physics at the postgraduate level. Prior to this, I was involved in teaching several courses at the Institute for Applied Physics (University of Tuebingen, Germany) at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels including Advanced topics in condensed matter physics, Scattering techniques in soft matter physics, Advanced Practical in Condensed matter physics- “Determination of crystal structure using Debye-Scherrer technique”, Practical for Nanoscience course- “Powder X-ray diffraction- Basics and Principles”.
